New homes are popping up all over Del Mar Woods and the neighborhood will never be the same again. But along with the beautiful homes comes a few problems... some real and some perceived.

Added strains placed on Del Mar Wood’s antiquated infrastructure is one such problem. Water, sewerage, and drainage have always been a challenge in “The Woods,” but now they’ve been strained even more by additional requirements associated with the larger homes. Fortunately, most of these problems are being addressed by the various utilities and governmental agencies.

Other “problems” are not really problems at all, but rather typical challenges accompanying any type type of societal change. And the changing complexion of Del Mar Woods can only be described as a major societal change... at least locally.

A case in point centers around the inadequacies of our streets to accommodate large amounts of construction traffic. Not only are the streets taking a beating by the heavy equipment, shoulders are being destroyed, and a small number of “challenged” subcontractors have all but halted normal flows of traffic.

In their frustration, several neighbors came up with the idea of banning all on-street parking in Del Mar Woods. Unfortunately, that’s the same as “throwing the baby out with the bath water” since it does more to penalize the residents than the few errant contractors.

Although there are far better ways to address the situation (click HERE), the Township Supervisor responsible for maintaining our roads had an ordinance passed banning parking on the outer side of all perimeter streets and on the east side of Forest Court.

Regardless if it’s one side or both sides, the ordinance had been a disaster. The shoulders have been trashed by trucks navigating around vehicles parked on the shoulders and roadway; non-English speaking workman park where they wish; ordinary cars finds it near impossible to survive the ruts and mud holes on the shoulders, and the dangers posed to our children as they play throughout “The Woods” is unacceptable.
