The main areas of concern in Del Mar Woods seem to be the decaying fresh water delivery system from Lake Forest and storm water drainage within Del Mar Woods. This section will focus on these two systems.
Storm Water Drainage
Storm water drainage has been the major challenge in Del Mar Woods because of its natural, low lying topology. In fact, the Del Mar Woods Improvement Association, a collection of independent homeowners, was originally formed to pool resources to address this problem. Over the years, a number of remedies have been offered and implemented to minimize problems resulting from heavier rainfalls. These have included the installation of dry wells, a limited drainage system, and the trenching of a ditch around the northern and western perimeters to channel excessive waters to the nearby West Fork of the North Branch of the Chicago River via 48” diameter cement tiles.

Fresh Water Supply
The second major problem in Del Mar Woods has been the fresh water supply system. Not only are Del Mar residents paying through the nose for Lake Forest water, they are receiving it over seriously deteriorated supply lines. Breaks in the line are constant and the taste of the water is far less than acceptable, leading many to purchase bottled drinking water from a number of outside sources.
The owner of the water system, Utilities, Inc., finally agreed to replace the aged structure, a cost of $10.000+ for each homeowner’s connection.
